The Golden Rulers were founded in 2009 by drummer Jon Cohan (Tarbox Ramblers). Cohan’s goal was simple: to reintroduce audiences to the great groove-based American music he grew up listening to: Blues, R&B, Soul, Funk, and Rock music from the 1950s to the 1970s. To make the dream a reality, he assembled some of his favorite veteran musicians from the Boston music scene.
Joining Cohan are Erica Rodney, powerhouse singer formerly with Fatwall Jack, a seminal Boston blues act. On guitars are Phil Kaplan, co-founder of Boston rock heroes Men and Volts, and Mike Pyle from Midwest power pop icons The Shivvers. Rounding out Ruler’s rhythmic foundation is bassist Brian Rost (Fatwall Jack, The Boogaloo Swamis), and keyboardist Jim Gambino from Boston Country Rock luminaries The Swinging Steaks. Band members have shared the stage with such diverse acts as Alice Cooper, Chuck Berry, Trombone Shorty, and Warren Haynes.
The Golden Rulers are on a mission to preserve the timeless essence of classic American music, infusing it with their own unique style. With a soul-stirring stage show and an enduring dedication to their craft, they take audiences on an unforgettable journey through that golden era of music.
